About This Blog

Hello. Thanks for visiting my blog. My name is Jen.  I used to suffer from regular migraines, but I thank God for answering my prayers and setting me on a journey of discovery about my health. By changing my diet I have found relief from those migraines and these days barely get any sort of headache at all!

On my journey I have transitioned from a diet which I actually thought was quite healthy, based on the nutritional advice of my generation.  You know, low fat, high carb and eating well most of the time but it being ok to indulge in whatever I want to occasionally.  I have discovered there are many reasons why our traditional nutritional advice and that 80/20 kind of eating philosophy will only deliver mediocre health.

"Studies too numerous to count have confirmed that Dr Price's observations that the so-called civilized diet, particularly the Western diet of refined carbohydrates and devitalised fats and oils, spoils our God-given genetic inheritance of physical perfection and vibrant health." ~ Sally Fallon, Author of  "Nourishing Traditions".

I now believe that a healthy diet is a clean wholefoods one, free of processed foods and refined carbohydrates and vegetable oils, full of mostly plants: fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some properly prepared wholegrains, and quality free-range grass-fed meats.  I cook with organic unrefined cold pressed coconut oil or grass-fed butter, and use cold pressed extra virgin olive oil to make salad dressings.  I look for organic and local produce where practical.  I am still tweaking my diet as I continue to learn but most of all I focus on nutrient density, not calories. I'm about taking every opportunity to put the good stuff in and not wasting my appetite on stuff that has little or no nutritional value. The more I research, the more evidence I find that this is a good philosophy to live by.

Now I have a passion to be healthy and full of energy every day!  I hope that I can inspire you too to take more control of your own health.

This blog is about me, what I'm doing, what's working for me and what's not.  It includes my experiences and opinions.  It is for general information only and is in no way intended to replace the advice of a health care professional.
